Instructions
Preparation
In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and pickle relish. Add salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.
Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and shape them into patties. Make a small indention in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
Cooking
Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on one side.
Flip the burgers and add a slice of cheese on each patty. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes or until the cheese melts and the burgers reach your desired level of doneness.
While the burgers are cooking, toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a separate pan until golden brown.
Assembly
Spread a generous amount of the special New York sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Place the cooked burger patty on top, followed by the other half of the bun.
Serving
Serve the burgers hot with your favorite side dishes.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Best eaten within 2 days. If storing ingredients separately, keep patties and buns in separate containers. The sauce can be refrigerated in a sealed jar for up to one week.
